The Lost and The Plunderers finds Rick and Michonne moving on after Carl’s passing as they try one last time to convince Jadis and the Scavengers to join their cause. They do not find what they expected though. We also see Aaron and Enid taken prisoner by the Oceansiders. Simon secretly goes against Negan’s orders, and Negan and Rick speak about Carl’s death. The Lost and The Plunderers was presented as a series of vignettes that led in with a character’s name so our recap is organized in the same way this week.

The Lost and The Plunderers (S8 Episode 10)
“Michonne”
The Lost and The Plunderers begins with Michonne and Rick outside of the church where Carl died. Michonne is in the background slicing up a few approaching walkers as Rick crouches next to the cross marking marking Carl’s grave. He hangs Carl’s gun on it, but then thinks better of it and takes the gun with him. Michonne looks around Alexandria and notices the gate is still open so she closes it, but not before taking out several more walkers (including a nasty face-peeling walker).
Rick finds a radio on one of the dead Saviors and takes with him. As he walks off, you can see the weight of Carl’s death weighing on Michonne. She goes to their house and sees the handprints that Carl made with Judith and weeps. She continues inside the house and tells Rick they have to go. They have packed bags and loaded up a van. She sees that the gazebo where Carl used to sit is on fire and they run to extinguish it as walkers surround them. More keep coming, but Michonne doesn’t want to leave. She gives up just in time… slicing up walkers on her run to the van. Alexandria has become overrun with walkers. Michonne takes one last look at the safe zone sign that is written to the lost and the plunderers as they leave, probably for the last time.

While they are driving, Rick asks Michonne what she thinks Carl meant. He wants to know if he meant they should stop fighting the Saviors. Michonne looks through the letters and discovers that Carl addressed a letter to Negan. Rick tells her they must go to Jadis and warn them that Negan will be coming for them.
They walk into the Scavengers area through a shipping container door and trigger a booby trap that dumps trash over the entrance blocking their exit. Walkers immediately start to close in on them. It appears that Jadis has double-crossed him again.
“Negan”
Negan is venting to Simon about Rick and Carl escaping their assault on Alexandria. Simon then updates him on the Hilltop scenario, but he is frustrated that he is not being sent to chase down Rick. Negan has another job for him… he tells him to go to the “Garbage People” to remind them that they are there to serve the Saviors. He is to kill just one person so the rest will fall in line. Simon suggests that they should cut their losses and eliminate them all – the Hilltop, Alexandria, the Kingdom, and the Scavengers. Negan tells him that is the easy way out, but it is not their way… and their way works. Simon snidely says “not lately.”
Some of his men come in with Maggie’s coffin delivery with a now-turned dead Savior inside. Simon opens it and Negan takes out the walker with a nail gun. Simon is furious and wants to kill everyone at the Hilltop, but Negan refuses him.

“Enid”
Enid and Aaron are led into a room at Oceanside. They are handcuffed on the floor and left alone. Enid says she had to kill the old lady and would do it again. The Oceanside women come back in and get them off the floor as their new leader, Cindy, tries to decide what to do with them. Enid tells her that they will be wiped out by their group if they kill them. Aaron tries to talk Cindy into helping them, but she refuses. The women take them to their boundaries and tell them to leave and not come back. Once the women are gone, Aaron tells Enid to go to the car, because he is staying to convince them to help.
“Simon”
Simon walks through the Sanctuary and is not happy about going to the Scavengers. One he arrives there, he tells Jadis that he needs an apology. She moves closer as he tells her that he knows she came to the Sanctuary with Rick. Jadis says they had no deal with Rick, and that they brought him to the Saviors. Simon yells “bullshit” and tells her that Negan is giving her a break against his own belief, but only if they back Negan again. Simon tells them that he has to take their guns though. Jadis gives them up.

Simon asks about the helipad and solar panels in the back of the landfill, and what the place was before they moved in. She says “a dump”. He presses her because he thinks she knows more. He then tells her that he still hasn’t gotten her apology. Jadis says there is remorse and Simon shoots one of her people. She says it again, and he shoots another one. Then she knocks him on the ground, but he gets up and tells his men to light them up. They shoot them all except for Jadis.

Simon returns to Sanctuary. When Negan asks him how it went, he tells him that he gave them the standard message and delivery. Before Negan can question him any further, one of his men walks up with a radio and says “It’s Rick”. Simon notices the blue paint on his boot from the landfill as Negan walks off with the radio.
“Jadis”
Back at the landfill, Rick and Michonne are fighting off walkers as they start climbing the trash pile to get away. They see Jadis at the top of the pile. Michonne asks what happened and Jadis tells her it was the Saviors. Jadis explains that the landfill used to be where she came to find things to paint on. She turned the place into something new when things changed.
Rick fashions a weapon out of a car door and says he is going to run for it. Jadis says she will come with him, but he tells Michonne that he is done with her games. Rick and Michonne fight their way through the walker, and make their way through to the container entrance. Jadis begs for them to let her out, but she doesn’t make it.

She is alone now and is sitting and banging a stick to attract the walkers, who are all her former people. As they approach, she flips a switch to turn on a shredder and they start falling in. She watches as they fall in one by one, and their flesh passes by on the conveyor belt on the other side. She shuts the machine off, gets down, pulls out a box with food in it, and starts munching on applesauce.

“Rick”
Rick and Michonne are driving away from the landfill as he explains to Michonne that he didn’t kill Jadis as they left. Michonne says that it feels like what Carl was talking about, that they have a choice. He pulls over to think about it. He gets out with the radio and is looking at the notes that Carl wrote to him and Negan. He opens the one to Negan and reads it. Then calls on the radio for Negan.
Rick tells Negan that Carl is dead and that he wrote a letter to him. Carl’s letter asked for Negan and Rick to stop… he asked for peace. Rick says it too late for that and that he is still going to kill him. Negan asks how Carl died… if it was them that caused it. Rick explains that he got bit helping somebody. Negan tells Rick that he is sorry, and that he had plans for Carl… that Carl was the future. He says that Carl is dead because Rick wasn’t there to stop him from doing something stupid. Negan tells him to not let his decisions cause him to lose everyone else. He says Rick should have let him save all of them… that he failed as a leader and a father, and that he won’t kill him because he has already lost.
The Lost and The Plunderers showed that beneath his evil side, Negan cared for Carl and had plans for him in the future.
