TWD: “The King, The Widow, and Rick”

In The King, The Widow, and Rick, Maggie and Jesus debate how to handle the Savior prisoners without compromising who they are. Carol tries console an inconsolable Ezekiel after losing Shiva. Michonne and Rosita take a risk to try to find out what is happening outside of Alexandria’s walls. Carl goes back to fund the mysterious traveler that Rick shot at, and Daryl and Tara are determined to push the fight forward.

The King, The Widow, and Rick (S8 Episode 6)

The King, The Widow, and Rick begins with messages are being passed between the Hilltop, the Kingdom, and Alexandria telling of the news of the different attacks. Rick is advancing the plan and is on his way to the propose a plan to the Scavengers. The Sanctuary is still surrounded, and he tells everyone to meet there in two days to finish their attack.

The Savior prisoners are sitting against the wall outside of the hilltop as Jesus gives them food and water. Maggie comes out and complains to him about giving them their food.Gregory is with her and is trying to convince Maggie to kill them, but she orders him to go inside. Maggie is upset with Jesus for bringing prisoners back. Jesus tells her that he wants to make sure that what’s left after this battle is worth what they lost, which means still treating people as people.

At the Kingdom, Carol goes to Ezekiel’s door, but Jerry says he is not receiving visitors. Carol bangs on the door but he there is no answer. Jerry says he told him not to stand guard anymore. Carol leaves angry at Ezekiel for giving up and hiding.

At the Scavengers, Rick is brought to Jadis when he arrives. He tries to convince her that they need to join forces even though she betrayed him, but she is not sure she should trust him. He shows her polaroids of how they have Negan boxed in, and he tells her she needs to help him for her own good. If not, Rick and his group will destroy her after they overtake the Saviors. She says no and her people take him as a prisoner.

Maggie and Gregory are talking in his old office. He tries to justify his approach to her, but she is not buying it. He offers to help keep on what she is doing, but she says she’s got it.

At Alexandria, Michonne is preparing to leave against Rick’s wishes. Rosita tries to stop her, but Michonne tells her that she’ll be right back. Rosita then jumps in the car with her. Daryl is talking to Tara and she says he is right for not killing Dwight when they took him prisoner, but she says she is going to kill him as soon as the attack is over. On the road, Michonne says she needed to get out of Alexandria because she needs to know what is happening before she can relax. They hear something and go through the woods to investigate. It is music coming from a school.

Jesus is outside with the prisoners at night, and they are questioning why he is with the group. One guy is telling his story of being with Negan and how he was safe until went out to put up a fence, and now he’s a prisoner.

Carl has gone outside the walls of Alexandria to find the stranger that his Dad scared off. He tells him the shots that his dad fired at the man were warning shots and offers him food and water. His name is Siddiq. He guzzles the water and Carl tells him that he is glad he found him. The man seems startled that Carl was looking for him. Carl proceeds to ask him their three questions. He has killed one man. He says he continue to hunt and kill the walkers because his mom thought that it would free their souls.

A young boy from the Kingdom is practicing killing walkers in the forest when Carol finds him, kills the walkers for him, and scolds him. He is trying to convince Carol to let him come with her. She reluctantly gives him a gun and tells him to stay close.

At daylight, one of the prisoners is still talking to Jesus when Enid comes out and says to bring the prisoners inside. They have built a prison for them inside the walls. Jesus is relieved they are not being executed. Maggie announces they will keep and feed them, but not disrespect them. Gregory speaks up and doesn’t agree that they should keep people they can’t trust behind their walls. Maggie says she agrees and puts him in the prison as well. He cries like a baby. As they gate is being locked, one prisoner goes for the guards gun, but Maggie hits him with her gun first. The man who was bothering Jesus says thank you for not killing him. She says don’t make me regret it.

Carl and the man are walking back to Alexandria when they come across walkers feeding on a deer. They go to take them out and Carl is forced down. He struggles as a second walker jumps on him. He just manages to kill them. He tells the man that he is responsible for the man now… suggesting the man needs to think more about his actions.

Michonne and Rosita are investigating the school from where the noise was coming. They hear people inside discussing the battle… about how Rick will lose. They are preparing a vehicle with speakers mounted on it to lure the walkers away from the Sanctuary. Michonne sneaks up, but accidentally kicks a tennis ball and alerts the Saviors. They are now being hunted.

Rosita drops her gun, and is searching quietly for another weapon. Michonne attacks one person, but her injuries prevent her from completely taking the girl out. The girl yells for her partner to head to the sanctuary. As he turns the corner, Rosita is standing with a rocket launcher. He says she won’t use, but she annihilates him with it. The girl takes off with the truck full of speakers out of reach of Rosita and Michonne, but Daryl smashes into the truck at the last minute with a garbage truck. Rosita and Michonne join him and Tara on their mission.

Carol returns to Ezekiel’s determined to talk to him. She is about shoot the lock when Jerry yells, “Yo, the door is not locked.” Ezekiel knows why she is there, but he says he can’t. She says the people need him because he is the king. He says he just played a part, but he can’t do it anymore. She asks why he kept coming to visit her when she wanted to be alone outside of the Kingdom. He says it was his duty to be sure she was okay, but then he adds that it was really because she made him feel real instead of a fiction. She tells him that he is real to her and to the Kingdom. She tells him that the Kingdom needs him, and even if he can’t, he needs to play the part for them. He still says he can’t.

One of the prisoners at the Hilltop is trying to cut his bindings, when another guy knocks it from his hand and stops him. He says he will get them killed, and adds that soon the place will be their’s anyway. Aaron is inside talking to Maggie about losing Eric. She says it helps to do something about it. Jesus comes in and says she did the right thing by not killing the prisoners. She tells him that they may need them for bargaining chips…clearly not what he wanted to hear. Aaron is getting in his car to go rejoin the fight. Enid wants to go with him, and he agrees to let her.

The The King, The Widow, and Rick ends with Daryl pulling up close to the Sanctuary and showing Michonne and Rosita what they wanted to see. Tara asks what he needs them to do. He says to end this thing right now. Meanwhile, Rick has been locked naked in a container at the Scavengers. Jadis marks an A on the outside of the it and walks away wearing Rick’s boots.
