We have logged countless hours playing 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, so naturally we are anxiously awaiting the November 17th release of Star Wars Battlefront II. The one thing that we always wanted in the original game was a campaign mode. Now I know that are a lot of die-hard multiplayer fans who could do without a campaign and sure… chasing down our friends and slashing them with Luke’s lightsaber or using Vader’s force choke was very satisfying, but we couldn’t help but feel something was missing with the absence of a single-player story mode.
Well as Yoda would say, “missing, it no longer is”. Battlefront II gives us what is described as an epic journey with a starring role as Commander Iden Versio. Iden is the leader of an Imperial elite special forces unit called the Inferno Squad. The story covers the 30-year period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It starts right after the destruction of the second Death Star and takes us up to the creation of the First Order. The story mode also includes several other yet to be named playable characters from “Star Wars greatest characters”. Who could this be? A young Kylo Ren? Supreme Leader Snoke?
If you could care less about the story and simply want to jump into an epic 40-player battle, the multiplayer boasts more playable hero characters including Rey, Kylo Ren, Darth Maul, and Yoda. Even though he hasn’t been confirmed, I am really hoping to be able to have Darth Maul battle Obi-Wan Kenobi. The multiplayer will employ class-based gameplay with a progression system. There is an improved weapons modification system and you will be able to custom hero abilities. The maps have also been updated to include settings from the new movies as well as… Mos Eisley! I really hope we can go into the Cantina and settle that who shot first discussion between Han and Greedo (yes, we know Han did).
The game drops on November 17th, but if you order the Deluxe version, you can play early on November 14th. If you are an EA Access or Origin Access member, you can play on November 9th. Preorder the game and you will receive The Last Jedi outfit upgrades and ability modifiers for Kylo Ren and Rey as well as an ability modifier for the Millennium Falcon.
