In celebration of the release of the new product line for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Disney and Lucasfilm announce Find the Force, which is an augmented reality experience that will begin on Force Friday II starting this Friday, September 1st. Find the Force consists of a pop-up AR treasure hunt where fans will have the opportunity to reveal their favorite characters at over 20,000 retailers worldwide. The Find the Force event will last three days from September 1st through 3rd so get your phones ready!
As you visit your favorite retailer to take home some of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi products, be sure to keep your eye out for the Find the Force logo. When you spot it, scan the graphic using the Star Wars app, and a character will be revealed to you. The character will appear through augmented reality at which point you can take photos and videos to share on social media with the official hashtags #FindtheForce and #ForceFriday. The characters that will be revealed include fan-favorites as well as surprise additions from the new film. You can also add the hashtag #Sweepstakes to be entered for a chance to win tickets to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere in December!
“Force Friday II is a major milestone in the countdown to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Star Wars has always championed new technology, and we are excited that augmented reality will allow fans to experience the universe in a whole new way,” says Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm.
The technology theme associated with Find the Force also spills over into the product line according to Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “Force Friday II puts fans right at the center of the action using augmented reality to bring our characters to life like never before. The technology theme continues in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi product line, which is our most innovative yet – we can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store.”
If you are lucky enough to be near one of 20 major landmarks throughout the world today, you can view a Star Destroyer flying overhead with Tie Fighters shooting around it. There are four locations in the US, including the Hollywood Sign, the Grand Canyon, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Central Park. James Burns of Jedi News was given a sneak peak at the Star Destroyer and here is what he had to say, “What better way to start Force Friday II than to see a Star Destroyer over your favorite city landmark – it’s stunning! Star Wars is so special to so many, and bringing this kind of augmented reality to the Star Wars App is a great way to get you in the mood for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and all that awaits from now to December!”
Be sure you download the Star Wars app (or upgrade it if you have it already) so you are ready to participate in the action!
