Comic-Con 2017: Our Favorite New Previews

Comic-Con 2017 is in full swing and there are plenty of new highlights for some great new shows coming our way over the next year.  Here are our favorites so far:

Stranger Things 2

No show in recent memory has captured the nostalgia of the 80s like Stranger Things.  The first season was filled with Walkie Talkies, landline phones, and an amazing soundtrack.  The kids of Hawkins, Indiana faced a terrifying creature with the help of their new friend Eleven. Season 2 looks more ominous with another creature appearing in the new trailer.  It seems that Will is still struggling to deal with the events of the first season as he receives visions of this new entity approaching.  The new trailer takes us on another trip down nostalgia lane with Dragon’s Lair, Ghostbusters, and Vincent Price’s Thriller performance.

Thor: Ragnarok

The first Thor: Ragnarok trailer was a high energy, action filled clip set to Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song.  The new trailer shows even more action as an all-out assault on Asgard is being led by Hela, the Goddess of Death.  Thor, having lost his hammer to Hela, teams up with Hulk, Valkyrie, and Loki to take on her army.  As with Stranger Things, Ragnarok has a distinct 80s feel to it with colorful visuals everywhere and amazing song backing it.

The Walking Dead: Season 8

The Walking Dead has gotten a bad rap as of late.  I for one, still enjoy the show on a weekly basis.  Say what you will about it, but it is still different than any other show on television.  The preview for season 8 begins with Father Gabriel in a room being taunted by Negan telling him that he hopes he wore his “shittin’ pants”.   From there it appears that Season 8 will be about an all-out assault on Negan and his group.  The new season looks to have plenty of action… let’s just hope it doesn’t take until the mid-season to see our first taste of it.

Ready Player One

Of all the previews that were released at Comic-Con, Ready Player One is the movie that I am most excited for.  Ernest Cline’s novel is a fast-read full of pop-culture references that I have read multiple times.  I have been excitedly awaiting a first glimpse of what Steven Spielberg will do with this story set mainly inside a video game.  The first trailer looks fantastic, and while I envisioned the OASIS to be a much brighter place, this movie looks like it could be the Tron of a new generation.

Comic-Con has highlighted plenty of other great previews of things to come over the next year, but these are the ones that stood out the most.  Tell us what you think in the comments below!
